3 June 2025
As it is mid-year, this is the time when we typically welcome new volunteers and interns through a number of partner programs. Please extend a warm welcome to our new Agavi interns and Greenworks volunteers. The Agavi interns will be working to finish the Agavi prototype by later this year so that we can begin testing it in the field. The Greenworks volunteers will be working to expand the Beeworks projects with some exciting new work. Read more below!
Agavi Interns
We would like to welcome our Agavi interns, Aline, Ana, Daniela, Guilherme, and João, who begin work this month and will be working through the end of the year to complete the Agavi prototype and get it out into the field for testing. The interns are from the University of São Paulo (Brazil) and major in information systems and technologies. They’ll be working with Giane (project manager) and Alex (project co-lead). Joining them are Diana (Romania) and Lara (Brazil), who will be working on the user interface and user experience of Agavi so that it is intuitive and easy for teachers to use.

Of course, once the prototype is developed, the project will need continued support to get it into the hands of teachers. You can help support the Agavi project through GlobalGiving.
Greenworks Volunteers
We are also happy to welcome two new additions to the Greenworks family. Sarah and Enrico will be joining us through the Blue Marble Space Institute of Science Young Scientist Program through the end of August. They will be working on expanding the Beeworks program through the development of digital infrastructure for bee education and citizen science programs.

Clean Rivers Updates
Ihor sent some updates on the Clean Rivers project in Ukraine. On May 23rd and 24th, he and his team visited the villages of Kniazhouluka, Stankivtsi, and Bubnyshche along the Sukel’ River to survey the geology and existing geotourism infrastructure. They identified several sites of interest as well as recent landslides and related geohazards due to heavy rainfall. Additionally, they found some nice examples of geotourism and ecotourism signage at the field site.
